Microsoft offers steep discount... unless you are a fanboy.
Microsoft Vista Ultimate was the "fanboy" version which included both the business features *and* the media features in one package. There were also promised "Ultimate Extras" which for the most part turned out to be underwhelming, but really shouldn't have been a primary reason for buying Ulimate anyway. Now that Windows 7 is out and promises to bring the experience that Vista should have been to customers, Microsoft it trying to crank up sales with a... sale:

50% off is a very nice way to kick off, but there is a noticeable discrepancy in the Ultimate column. Fanboys (which I will count myself one of, as I use my home office machine both for development and media) get to pay full hit on the upgrade, as the Ultimate upgrade will *not* be discounted. I guess they figure if you were a big enough fan (or sucker) to pay a premium the first time, you won't really be needing that discount this time around.
To which I say: no I won't need a discount. Keeping my wallet shut is the best discount I can get right now.
